Our History:
Project Self-Sufficiency evolved from the efforts of a countywide task force in 1985 with the goal of coordinating and expanding services for low-income, single parent families. The project began in October 1986, with the enrollment of 65 families. Project Self-Sufficiency of Loveland-Fort Collins was incorporated and approved for 501(c)(3) status in 1992.
Through a growing body of research, Project Self-Sufficiency determined that one of the most promising pathways out of poverty includes access to higher education. The program grew beyond volunteer-driven mentorship and barrier removal to a formalized curriculum of career planning, support with adult education and training goals, and career placement. Our best practice model has been replicated through the Durango Education Center in southwestern Colorado.
Today, our programs are offered to 105 families concurrently. Every day, Project Self-Sufficiency breaks new ground with single-parent families to access their selfpower. Educational and career empowerment through 1:1 coaching, goal reinforcement, and significant support helping single parents cut through the stress and barriers to their success in order to selfpower their completely new life.
